Sibling rivalry has existed since the dawn of time. It might sound juvenile, but the desire to be the better sibling never leaves us no matter how old we get. So you can only imagine how frustrating it must be to live in the shadow of a famous sibling when you’re just an Average Joe.
Eminem is one of the world’s most famous musicians. In fact, his career has been so successful that he was the best selling hip-hop musician of the noughties. But despite being in the spotlight for over two decades, some facts about the rapper’s personal life have remained a mystery.
Now it’s emerged that the King of Hip Hop has a younger brother that almost no one knew about.
So who is this mysterious brother? It’s 31-year-old Nathan Kane Mathers, who is 14 years the 45-year-old rapper’s junior.
Whilst Nathan’s existence might come as a surprise to some fans of Slim, he’s actually been referenced in the rapper’s music before and was mentioned in a line of the song ‘My Mom’.
“But I don’t need it ‘Well fuck it then, break it up / Take a little piece and beat it before you wake Nathan up,” Eminem rapped.
Inspired by his older brother’s success, Mathers has been trying to make it big for some now, and he even tried his hand at music, releasing an aptly-titled song called ‘Shadow of a Celebrity’ a few years ago. Needless to say, it wasn’t successful.
But now it finally looks like Nathan is about to taste stardom thanks to his acting ability.
Nathan’s starring in the movie Devil’s Night: Dawn of the Nain. Directed and co-written by Emmy-nominated producer Sam Logan Khaleghi, and, if the trailer is anything to go by, the crime/horror movie is set to be a hit.
The story was adapted from a screenplay written by Aaron Herman Russman, and it is based on the folklore legend of the ‘Nain Rouge’ (the ‘Red Dwarf’).
This might sound like something that’s a world away from Eminem, but the Red Dwarf is a monster that is said to haunt Detriot, Michigan and the surrounding area – which is the rapper’s hometown and place of residence.
Acting clearly must run in the family because as we all know Eminem himself has been partial to a big screen appearance, with his most famous movie being 8 Mile (2002).
Devil’s Night: Dawn of the Nain was shot on location in Detroit and Chennai in India, and Nathan will be joined on the big screen by Fox’s Legends & Lies actor Jesi Jensen. She will be playing a military veteran turned police officer who is assigned the supernatural case.

With the exception of Nathan’s failed attempt at a rapping career, this is the third time he has hit briefly the headlines so only the most hardcore Eminem fans will have heard of him. The 31-year-old also briefly made the news in 2009 when he was arrested for drink-driving.
At the time of his arrest, Nathan had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16%, which is double the legal limit. However, given that he hasn’t made the news since then, we can only assume that he learned from his mistake and has not driven under the influence again.
Eminem and his brother Nathan did not have the easiest start in life, and the rapper has used his troubled upbringing as inspiration for his work.
“I don’t like to give the sob story: growing up in a single-parent home, never knew my father, my mother never worked, and when friends came over I’d hide the welfare cheese. Yo, I failed ninth grade three times, but I don’t think it was ’cause I’m stupid,” Eminem said of his childhood.
“I didn’t go to school. I couldn’t deal. I mean I got jumped, fucked up shit happened to me a few times, but that happens to everybody. I don’t think it has anything to do with color or any of that shit. It’s just all a part of growing up.”
Eminem is no stranger to speaking out about the things he cares about, which is undoubtedly the result of his upbringing, and he hit headlines around the world when he performed an epic four-minute anti-Trump freestyle rap called ‘The Storm’.
